Clay

Sedimentary; originated from fine-particle deposition in ancient lake beds or marine environments, compacted over time; influenced by Franciscan Formation uplift (Cretaceous-Jurassic periods, 65-150 million years ago).

Texture is fine and dense, often sticky when wet; pH ranges from 5.5-7.5 (acidic to neutral); drainage is poor to moderate, as particles compact easily; water retention is high, holding moisture well in dry spells but risking root rot in wet conditions.
