Sandstone

Sedimentary; deposited as sand layers in ancient seabeds during the Eocene epoch (34-56 million years ago), eroded and exposed in Sonoma Valley and Lake County benches.

Texture is coarse and gritty, often with loam overlays; pH is 6.0-7.5 (neutral); drainage is excellent due to porosity; water retention is low, encouraging deep roots.
